An explanation is a statement of what is there in reality and how it works and why, basically.
-David Deutsch
Hello,
Welcome to the first Questions & Explanations episode.
I am calling this Questions and Explanations because just giving answers is boring. Back in Episode 4, titled The Right Questions, I detail not only what makes up a good question, but also what and explanation to the question that author/scientist/philosopher David Deutsch says has reach. If you haven’t listened to Episode 4 yet, you should.
But to give you an idea of what an explanation with reach is, I will give you a relatively short answer.
I have been collecting questions for some time now, and I am always looking for more. You can submit questions via interesting@eddiekillian.com, the podcast and my LinkedIn pages, and X (you know, formerly Twitter). All the links are in the show notes.
Time Stamps:
[3:21] Question # 1: What is bureaucracy in a business context?
[10:11] Question #2: Why is worker empowerment important for the organization’s success?
[15:19] Question #3: Can you share a real-world example of “Drift” in action, either from your own experience or from industry in general?
[24:45] Question #4: How can management and leadership support and encourage empowerment?
[30:02] Question #5: How does “Drift” challenge traditional safety approaches, and what implications does it have for organizations?
Well, I think we have done a good job of offering up some explanations that have reach. In coming episodes, we will continue to dive deeper into these ideas of bureaucracy busting, their reasoning, and the real-world observations and how we can ensure these drive us to excellence, and how they affect our creativity, our lives, and our businesses and organizations.
I am very excited to announce, I am going to start adding Q&E time in future episodes, and have some episodes like this one, completely devoted to answering questions from you, the listener. So, send me your questions!
